Teaching students to read has changed in the last year. It is no longer based on sight words or looking at pictures for clues. Students are taught how to decode words. There are excellent new resources published which we would love to have for all of our grade 1/2 classes. While we received some resources, there are not enough for FIVE grade 1/2 classes. At Bowcroft, many of our learners are behind in reading. Some as much as three years.

By grade 3, learners who read at-grade-level should be able to utilize existing leveled literacy books as they have been taught the majority of the code and are working on applying knowledge and developing deeper comprehension skills.

We have compiled a list of early literacy resources that would allow us to support those learners. These necessary classroom resources, if purchased all together, would cost $24,000. We very much appreciate your generosity in supporting our small, complex school.
