In 1959, M. Cecil Brownlee established a trust fund for students of the Calgary Board of Education to encourage deserving students who might otherwise be discouraged by reason of financial need to pursue post-secondary education.

Eligibility
Open to students registered in Grade 10 who are completing the requirements of a high school diploma. Applicants must have obtained at least 35 credits in not more than one year, with a minimum 65% GPA overall. Students’ programs must include five (5) grade 10 level subjects, one of which must be English. Applicants must include a true copy of their grade 10 final marks, signed by the school principal or counselor.
Applicants must have demonstrated positive citizenship qualities as revealed by the participation in non-academic activities for the school and community.
Selection will be based on financial need, academics and citizenship.

Selection & Payment
Recipients are selected by September. The School Principal or Counselor will submit one nomination to the EducationMatters Scholarship Selection Committee for approval. To claim the award, within three (3) years of notification of award the recipient must be registered in an eligible program of study at a Canadian post-secondary institution of at least two years duration. Payments will be made to the post-secondary institutions.
