Pamela Jane Hardy was a dedicated teacher and brilliant mathematician who excelled athletically. In memory of her passion for teaching, love of math, and adventurous spirit this award will support a Calgary high school student who demonstrates financial need and excels mathematically and athletically to help offset the cost of a university education.

Eligibility

Open to students registered in grade 12 who are completing the requirements of a high school diploma. Applicants must have demonstrated academic progress in grade 12 and marks sufficient for entrance to a post-secondary area of study.

Applicants must show strong aptitude in mathematics and involvement in sport.

Applicants are required to submit an original essay outlining why the candidate believes they are a good candidate for the award. The essay must be no more than 500 words in length (one page, typed or printed).

Applicants are required to submit a minimum of one letter of reference. Letters may be provided from a school official, employer, or a community leader representing a community-based organization, demonstrating the applicant’s interest and aptitude in mathematics, athletics and/or suitability for the award.

Selection will be based on academic success in mathematics, involvement in sport, financial need, the essay, and references.

Selection & Payment

Recipients are selected by September. The EducationMatters Selection Committee may also include the donor or their representative. To claim the award, within eighteen (18) months of notification of award, the recipient must be registered in an eligible program of post-secondary study in Canada of at least two years duration, or an eligible skilled trades or apprenticeship program. Payments are made to the post-secondary institution.
