Eligibility

Open to students graduating Grade 12 who plan to pursue post-secondary education.

Applicants must demonstrate financial need, leadership and commitment to community

involvement through volunteering and participation in co-curriculars at their school.

Students are asked to respond to the following questions in no more that 350 words each:

1) Please describe any significant obstacles you have encountered during high or leading up to high school, and how you have managed to overcome these obstacles.

2) Describe how you’ve demonstrated leadership in a volunteer role or at school.

One letter of recommendation is required. The letter may be provided from a teacher, school

official, employer, or a community leader representing a community-based organization.

Selection will be based on financial need, leadership, participation in co-curriculars/volunteering, essay and reference.

Students can apply by creating an account in EducationMatters’ online portal. Applicants should check with their guidance office for more information and are encouraged to discuss their application with the Scholarship Coordinator at their high school.

Selection & Payment

Recipients are selected and notified in May. To claim the award, the recipient must be registered in an eligible program of post-secondary study in Canada in the fall immediately following graduation.

In order to receive funding for the second year, award holders must maintain sufficient academic standing to continue in post-secondary based on a full-time course load for the previous semester and provide proof of enrolment. An academic transcript must accompany each proof of enrolment which must be received no later than three (3) months after the beginning of each semester.

Payments are made to the post-secondary institution.
