Eligibility

Open to students who are in their final year of completing the requirements of a high school diploma and pursuing post-secondary education to achieve career success. Applicants must be newcomers to Canada within the past five (5) years and demonstrate financial need. Applicants must have academic marks sufficient for entrance to the chosen program/area of study at a Canadian University. Applicants are required to submit an original essay of approximately 500 words that shares their story about the journey that brought them to Canada and their life since arrival . International fee-paying students are not eligible to apply for this award. Selection will be based on the essay and financial need. Preference will be given to applicants who experience(d) language barriers.

Selection & Payment

Recipients are selected in July by the selection committee that includes representatives from EducationMatters, Calgary Foundation and the Fund Contact. To claim the Award, within eighteen (18) months of notification of Award, the recipient must be registered full-time (as defined by the institution) in an eligible program of post-secondary study at a Canadian University. In order to receive continued funding, award holders must maintain an overall 3.0 GPA on a full-time course load for the previous semester. A transcript must accompany each subsequent semester Payment Activation Form which must be received no later than three (3) months after the beginning of the semester
