The HPAD Student Award provides financial support to a graduating HPAD student that will pursue post-secondary
education or compete in high level/elite sport opportunities.

Unrestricted academic field of study but preference will be given to students pursuing an education program in the field of sport science. Students continuing to compete in a chosen sport at the varsity, provincial or national level.

ELIGIBILITY:

Open to students registered in grade 12 who are completing the requirements of a high school diploma. To be considered for this award, applicants must:

– Complete HPAD 10/20/30 while demonstrating a strong passion for athlete development and have successfully applied HPAD principles and values during their time in the program.
– Demonstrate leadership, citizenship and respect within the school community throughout grade 10, 11 and 12.
– Qualify for an Alberta High School Diploma.
– Fall into one of the following categories:
a. Enrolled in any post-secondary education program (a sport science field will be given preference).
b. Competing for a post-secondary level athletic team.
c. Competing for a provincial/national level sport organization.

Applicants are required to submit an essay of approximately 500-750 words in length following the themes below:

– The Importance of Sport: explain how and why sport has played a significant role in your life. Discuss the values, skills, and experiences you’ve gained through your involvement in sport.
– The Importance of HPAD: What has been your biggest takeaways from your time in HPAD and how will these support you in the future?
– Financial Considerations: Provide a brief statement to describe any special financial situations and/or the impact this award will have towards pursuing your goals.

Originality and creativity of the essay:

– Demonstrated passion for HPAD and the pursuit of Athletic Development.
– Embodied the HPAD values and goals.
– Financial considerations

SELECTION & PAYMENT:

Recipients will be selected by the HPAD Award/Grant selection committee, including a representative from EducationMatters and will be notified in June. To claim the award, within one (1) years of high school graduation, recipients attending post-secondary must be registered in an eligible program of post-secondary study OR proof of athletic affiliation must be presented.

Payments will be made to the post-secondary institution or to Bowness High School for distribution
