Eligibility

Open to students registered in the Centre for Performing & Visual Arts at Central Memorial High and other CBE and CCSD schools who are completing the requirements of a high school diploma. Applicants must have demonstrated artistic ability and a desire to develop these skills. Consideration may also be given to students demonstrating financial need. Applicants must submit a sample of their visual arts portfolio consisting of a minimum of five (5) pieces, at least one of which was created outside of their academic requirements. Applicants must also submit an essay/statement of approximately 500 words demonstrating their passion for the arts, their artistic achievements and their future goals. Students with financial need should provide a separate “statement of financial need” explaining their financial situation/circumstances. Selection of the successful recipient will be based on the following in the order of priority: academic GPA in grade 12 and Alberta Education High School Fine Arts Credits, portfolio/artwork, essay/ statement, with consideration being given to financial need.

Selection & Payment

Recipients will be notified by September. The selection committee shall include a member or a representative of the Peers family. To claim the award, within two (2) years of high school graduation the recipient must be registered in an eligible program of post-secondary study of at least two years duration leading to a degree or diploma in a field that leads to an art-related career. Payments are made to the post-secondary institution upon proof of registration in equal installments with confirmation of enrollment during each academic term. Proof of enrollment must be received by EducationMatters no later than three (3) months after the beginning of each academic term.
