Extraordinary Experiences

Transforming basic learning into experiences that spark curiosity, joy, and discovery.
Imagine a student staring in wonder at a mountain lake for the first time, or a giant dinosaur skeleton at the Royal Tyrell Museum. For many Calgary public school students, learning opportunities like this don’t take place at home because of financial hardship.
Donor gifts remove that financial barrier and help EducationMatters fund a variety of extraordinary experiences for CBE students such as field trips, on-site activities, and Indigenous learning opportunities.
These experiences spark confidence, curiosity, and belonging. These real-life teaching moments are catalysts for inspiring lifelong hobbies or future career plans. They can also be instrumental in keeping students interested in learning.
What donor gifts provide
To ensure equity across all public schools, EducationMatters provides funding so all students can benefit from enriched learning activities.
Gifts to support extraordinary experiences for CBE students help cover the costs involved with both on and off-site learning opportunities.
- Off-site activities (field trips) give students the chance to put theory into practice, strengthen their understanding of the curriculum, and cement their learning in a real-life situation. Costs for these types of experiences include transportation, entry fees and instructor fees.
- On-site activities, such as artist-in-residence opportunities or Indigenous Elder and Knowledge Keeper visits, broaden student perspectives. Costs for these activities include supplies, materials and instructor fees.
