Colonel MacLeod

As an act of reconciliation and recognition, Colonel Macleod School has connected with local Indigenous Knowledge Keepers to deepen our understanding of Indigenous ways through the Indigenization of our school courtyard.

Through teaching sessions, courtyard engagement and connecting with speakers and Elders, students, staff, and parents will learn how restoring natural spaces and reconnecting with Indigenous plant species can support environmental restoration and well-being while healing relationships between settlers, newcomers, and Indigenous peoples.

This project will have four phases, and when complete will cost approximately $18,000. Phase one will begin with such things as updating the irrigation system for the courtyard’s plants, composting, and working on designs and lesson plans with Knowledge Keepers and permaculture specialists.
