Preparing for the Future

Building Calgary's future together.
Every student deserves the chance to graduate confident, skilled, and ready for what comes next.
EducationMatters, through generous donors, support the CBE’s Unique Pathways dual credit and exploratory programs that provide students with hands-on, experiential and authentic programming and equipment.
These programs help students graduate with confidence, credentials, and a clear path to their future.
Unique Pathways collaborates with post-secondary institutions, community partners and industry on more than 55 programs, allowing high school students to earn both high school and post-secondary credits while providing them with a head start on their higher education and career pathway journeys.
Students take these programs during high school time, and there is no tuition fee.
What donor gifts provide
EducationMatters provides funding for the costs that are required for students to complete their courses:
- Personal protective equipment (PPE): work boots, lab scrubs, eyewear and helmets, and more.
- Technology: advanced computers and software beyond what a typical classroom provides.
- Transportation: transit passes or travel costs to post-secondary campuses or worksites.
- Consumable materials: supplies for Career and Technology Foundations (CTF) and Career and Technology Studies (CTS) courses so all junior and high-school students can complete engaging projects.
- Equipment replacement: keeping shop spaces and labs safe, modern, and accessible.
We also provide support for two additional, unique programs:
- Recreational Leadership Program for students in our Deaf and Hard of Hearing program who struggle to be successful in a traditional school setting.
- Skills Alberta competitions, so students in trades and technologies courses can compete, showcase their skills, and connect with industry leaders.
