Tenaris established the Merit Awards to help distinguish and encourage high-performing students who demonstrate commitment to their educational process and are actively involved in their communities. Tenaris values diversity, leadership and STEM related career paths.

Field of Study
STEM (Engineering, Math, Physics, Geology) related studies (including Robotics and Trades; Medicine and Biological Sciences not applicable) and Economics.
Ten (10) in 2020; two (2) awards designated for Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, Inuit) students. Students must self-declare with their school as Indigenous to be considered for these 2 awards, which must be supported in the letter of reference. In the event that no qualified applications from Indigenous students are received, awards will be distributed to other eligible applicants.
Open to students registered in grade 12 who are completing the requirements of a high school diploma and are pursing post-secondary education. Preference will be given to students attending institutions in Alberta.
Selection will be made with equal consideration being given to:
- Applicants with high academic achievement in high school STEM courses (including robotics and trades) who ALSO;
- Demonstrate leadership (through community volunteerism, student leadership and/or other indications of true, active leadership) as evidenced by volunteer activities and the required reference letters AND;
- Demonstrate commitment to a STEM related career
Two letters of reference are required. One reference letter should be from a school official (eg: teacher or administrator) supporting the applicant’s academic achievement, commitment to a STEM related career path, and self-declaration as Indigenous, if applicable. The second letter should be from a community leader (eg: volunteer coordinator, organization staff or other community connection) supporting the applicant’s leadership qualities and community involvement.

Selection & Payment
Recipients will be selected and notified in June. Recipients will/may be invited to attend a celebration event at a Tenaris site in Calgary. Payment will be made in one lump sum to the recipient’s post-secondary institution upon official confirmation of enrollment. To claim the award the recipient must be registered in an eligible program of post-secondary study within eighteen (18) months of notification. Preference will be given to students attending institutions in Alberta.
