Eligibility

Open to students registered in grade 12 who are residents of the City of Calgary, and are completing the requirements of a high school diploma. Applicants must have demonstrated academic progress and have a minimum 75% GPA in grade 12.

Applicants must have completed at least one grade 12 course in Math, and one grade 12 course in English, at any level.

Applicants must have demonstrated skills in the classroom that include leadership, teamwork, personal initiative, and solid work ethic. The student need not be the top in the class, but could be the most improved over the year. These qualities will be demonstrated through a letter of reference from a teacher who can attest to this student’s work through grade 12.

Selection will be based on academics, field of post-secondary study pursuing and reference.

The recipient of the award will have the opportunity of paid summer employment within Southland. This employment will be for the period from May to August after completing the first year of study after claiming the Award, on the understanding that the recipient must confirm acceptance of the employment offer to Southland Transportation no later than March 1st annually. The recipient will have opportunity to work in a variety of different divisions within Southland. The acceptance of any offers of employment is not a condition of winning the award.

Selection & Payment

Recipients are selected by September. To claim the award, within two (2) years of notification of award the recipient must be registered in an eligible program of post- secondary study in Calgary of at least two years duration. Payment will be made to the post-secondary institution.
