Open to students registered in grade 12 who are residents of the City of Calgary and are completing the requirements of a high school diploma.

Applicants must have demonstrated honesty and ownership of their actions and shown a strong desire to do the right thing, no matter the consequences, whether it be through their high school involvements or in the community.

Applicants must have demonstrated academic progress and must have completed at least one grade 12 course in Math and one grade 12 course in English, at any level.

The applicant does not necessarily need to be at the top of their class, but must be someone who is relied upon and counted on as a builder of the school and greater communities. These qualities will be demonstrated through a letter of reference from a school official or community member who can attest to the applicant’s character with examples of their integrity.

Selection will be based on a combination of the reference and academics.

The recipient of the award will have the opportunity of paid summer employment within Southland. This employment will be for the period of May to August after completing the first year of post-secondary education after claiming the award, on the understanding that the recipient must confirm acceptance of the employment offer to Southland Transportation no later than March 1st annually. The recipient will have opportunity to work in a variety of different divisions within Southland. The acceptance of any offers of employment is not a condition of winning the award.
