F. Margaret Milligan, a Calgary artist donated a number of her paintings throughout her life and the proceeds from the sale of her works were used to establish this award in 1985 in her name. The Scholarship is awarded to a student who has achieved excellence in an art program sponsored by the Calgary Board of Education (High School, Further Education or Adult Academic) and who is eligible for admission to a post-secondary education on the basis of demonstrated creative artistic ability.

Field of Study
Open to students registered in Grade 12 CBE or Continuing Education programs that are completing the requirements of a high school diploma.
Applicants must have demonstrated creative artistic ability as revealed in a portfolio that would serve as an entrance requirement for a post-secondary art program. Applicants must prepare and submit a portfolio of their work, ready for viewing.
Applicants are also required to submit an original essay or statement about their past, present and future artistic goals. This essay or statement must be no more than 500 words in length (one page, typed or printed).

Selection & Payment
Recipients are selected in August. The EducationMatters Selection Committee may also include members of the Continuing Education Fine Arts Program. To claim the award, within two (2) years of notification of award, the recipient must be registered in an eligible program of post-secondary study of at least two years duration. Payments will be made to the student.
