As part of the SAIT Business Administration course students are expected to put on an event benefitting a non-profit in the community. This year our group chose EducationMatters as we have a passion for public education and appreciate the good work they do for the Calgary Board of Education. The funds raised through our event will go towards a new fundraising campaign providing long-term funding for Psycho-Educational Assessments for CBE students.
Psycho-Educational Assessments are vital for students struggling to find success in school – they help unlock resources and funding needed to support the successful navigation and completion of K-12 schooling. More students than ever need extra support in school thanks to a combination of COVID and the contraction of the oil and gas sector, but fewer families can afford to pay for an assessment to access appropriate help. The assessment results are required to secure help for students who struggle in school due to a learning disability, ADHD, or other diagnosed conditions.
Learning assessments are vital as without a formal assessment schools are unable to provide additional learning assistance, however these assessments can cost families $1500-$5000 each. This fund will help provide a bursary for struggling families to access to obtain a formal assessment for their child.
You can help us with this campaign by purchasing a ticket to our event on November 22nd here, or by donating directly below.
