Evergreen School

Last May, we were approached by a former Evergreen student around an opportunity to have the Western Mechatronics Robotics Club come to the school to provide our kids with a demonstration of their work. This was an absolute hit and all the staff agreed that they had not seen this level of enthusiasm and interest from their classes before.

In light of the passion we saw in our students, we approached the Club members around the possibility of designing a residency for our school. Though they had never done this before, they were eager to collaborate and build out a plan specially tailored for Evergreen School. Following some initial meetings we are set to make the residency official! Starting on May 8th through to the May 31st, our students will have various opportunities to build, design, program and modify robots. The level of complexity and challenge will increase based upon the grade but all of the children will interact, learn and explore the concept of robotics and how this technology can be used for many purposes.

Now we need your support. In order to bring this plan to life we will be fundraising so that we can purchase the robotics kits for our continued use throughout the year and beyond. Our fundraising goal is $7000.00 and we are hoping that as a community we can come together to actualize this plan! Similar to our Loonies for Literacy campaign, we are utilizing Education Matters to support us with our fundraising. ‘A Twenty for Tech’ will launch on March 6th and run through to May 31st. For donations 20$ or more, tax receipts are available. Please feel free to send the link to grandparents and other family members who may be interested in supporting this opportunity for our kids.

Thank you so much,

Kim Broomfield, BEd, MDCS
Assistant Principal, Evergreen School
