Exciting news! The grades 1 and 2 classes have been provided an opportunity to visit both the Chinese Cultural Centre and Baitun Nur Mosque early in 2023. These off site trips connect to our social studies curriculum in outcomes around citizenship, belonging, and connecting. They also provide us an opportunity to explore places that we don’t necessarily get to visit.

You may or may not know that all field trips fund requests must be submitted in the spring for approval the following school year. As this is a new opportunity for us we did not submit approval and therefore cannot apply field trip costs through the myCBE system to each student for these opportunities. The total cost of the two trips, including bussing is approximately $800.

We understand these are challenging times for many Alexander Ferguson families. With your help, we are hoping to receive donations to cover the cost of these trips. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 and over.

The CBE has mandated that EducationMatters, Calgary’s public education trust, will process this type of fundraiser. They charge a 3.5% administration fee for donation processing in order to offset their operational costs. The remainder of the funds raised will go directly to Alex Ferguson School. If additional funds are donated to this field trip account request we will apply them to other off-site opportunities for all our students, thereby reducing the cost per student for all AFS families.

There will be other opportunities in the coming months to support the school, such as a through Fundscrip, volunteering, and fun lunches.
