STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Education is a fantastic way to engage students in meaningful, active learning while developing valuable critical thinking, problem solving, and collaborative working skills.
In 2022, a new robotics program will be piloted with approximately 20 Calgary Board of Education (CBE) schools, with future plans to roll the program out across the system.
For the purposes of the pilot, 5 kits costing $125 each will be provided to at least 20 different schools. A kit is comprised of an open-source electrical component, rechargable batteries, 3D printed parts, and laser-cut parts. All of the 3D printing and laser cutting will happen in CBE maker spaces using existing equipment.
To ensure that all interested schools have the opportunity to be part of this pilot, EducationMatters is raising $15,550 to cover the costs of schools in less affluent communities.
Providing an affordable, inclusive robotics program to students will help them master many of the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful in both school and work. Please support this initiative and help us make robotics opportunities available to every individual attending a CBE school.
