Back to School Campaign

There are students in Calgary who need your help.

Each fall, schools in your community apply for financial support through EducationMatters to fund programs that help disadvantaged students succeed and ensure that all students are prepared for adult life.

There will not be enough funding to support all of the requests we receive.

In 2017, we received over $714,000 in worthy requests that we were unable to support. With your help, we can do more. Please donate, and help support the needs of students this fall.

A gift of $32 buys a hungry student healthy breakfast for a month. $70 can support mental wellness initiatives for a student. $100 brings math learning tools to an entire classroom. $180 provides the required safety equipment for a student in need to get started in the trades.

Thanks to supporters like you:

  • Students with financial barriers were able to begin their apprenticeship training in the trades, encouraging their high school graduation and starting them on a meaningful career path.
  • William Reid School adopted an innovative approach to teaching math, using new hands-on learning tools to help students visualize important mathematical concepts.
  • Forest Lawn High School students participated in a collaborative art project that helped to reduce the stigma surrounding talking about mental health.
  • English as a second language students at Connaught Elementary School were able to build connections with their peers and develop a sense of place in their new environment.

With over 121,600 students and 245 schools in the Calgary Board of Education, these projects are only a small example of the needs Calgary students are facing outside of Alberta’s core educational funding.

Your contribution will provide support for vulnerable students, create career, health, and life skills programming, enhance literacy, and make science, technology, engineering, arts, and math initiatives possible.

We all have a role to play in public education.
