Adut Mabior
Student, Louise Dean Centre

Adut Mabior was born in Sudan, Africa and came to Canada at the age of five. From having lived in a refugee camp prior to leaving Sudan, she immigrated to Canada without any family. Adut never did know parents. Her father was killed while she was here in Canada. She was told that her mother had died too, but she only learned many years later that that turned out to be a lie. Adut grew up in numerous foster care situations and eventually came to CBE's Louise Dean Centre in Grade 9. Adut's is a very sad but heart-warming journey.

As a teenage mother to her 2 year old son Isaac, Adut is now determined to make a success of her life where she has had to overcome so much. At only 17, Adut will be graduating from Louise Dean Centre in June 2008 with honours. She has already been accepted to Mt. Royal College for September. As well, Adut received the Dr. Gordon Higgins Scholarship in November through EducationMatters.

Brenda English, principal at Louise Dean Centre, immediately thought of Adut as the perfect student to close Kafe12. She is excited to speak about what helped her achieve her dreams ... community, friends, teachers and school. Aduts' incredible story of challenge, hardship and ultimate success represents hope.
