For every student, school is crucial for success –mastering trig; reading the classics; learning the periodic table; exploring world history. When a student can't get to school, then there can't be any learning.
At Louise Dean Centre, there are students who require basic supports so they can make it to their math or art classes. These are young pregnant and parenting women who struggle everyday with monumental challenges. Raising a child and going to school are each full time jobs; imagine trying to do both.
“Every one of the girls here is inspiring,” says outgoing principal Brenda English. “To be in high school and to create success for yourself AND raise a child, it's
above and beyond what most people can accomplish.”
What these young women need the most is financial support to ensure they get to school every day. Sometimes students don't have money for bus tickets, rent or child care. The Louise Dean Emergency Student Fund was established at EducationMatters to make sure these students have those supports in place. Every dollar counts.
As Brenda prepares to leave Louise Dean Centre as of June 2010, there is only one thing she
wants….. for all of her CBE colleagues, school partners, business associates and friends to donate to this important fund. Cards, flowers, gifts or a party could never mean as much as a heartfelt tribute gift to the Louise Dean Emergency
Student Fund.
“This is something that means so much to me, but more importantly it literally means the world to these young women. It will help them stay in school and accomplish what they need for themselves and their children to succeed in this world. This can truly be life changing.”
Thank you for your support and for making a difference to the students at Louise Dean Centre.
